Anthelios XL
The new announcement
One of our top sellers to customers in the States has been our Anthelios L sunscreen from La Roche-Posay. For the longest time, this was the very best sunscreen available in Canada. In April of 2007, however, La Roche-Posay released an improved sunscreen, called Anthelios XL.
What is mexoryl?
When sunscreens say they block UV rays, they’re usually talking about UVB rays. It’s the UVA rays, however, that are most closely linked to causing wrinkles and signs of aging. Blocking UVA rays is also key to preventing certain cancers.
Anthelios is a line of sunscreens by La Roche-Posay that contain mexoryl, which is the chemical in sunscreens that blocks UVA rays. Mexoryl in sunscreens with an SPF over 15 is not available in the United States. Previously, mexoryl SX was the only version of mexoryl available in Canada.
Mexoryl XL vs mexoryl SX
Now, however, mexoryl XL is available. Mexoryl XL is even better at blocking UVA rays by blocking a wider range of the spectrum, it is also better because it isn’t water soluble–making the UVA protection waterproof.
Only Ombrelle and La Roche-Posay sunscreens come in formulations containing mexoryl XL.
